Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, who played  Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series, has died at 72.

Robbie Coltrane has acted in the James Bond films - Goldeneye, ITV detective drama Cracker and The World Is Not Enough.

But Robbie Coltrane was best known for playing the Rubeus Hagrid in all eight Harry Potter film series.

Author of the Harry Potter, JK Rowling wrote on Twitter, mentioning Robbie Coltrane as an "incredible talent".

In a statement, Robbie Coltrane's agent Belinda Wright confirmed the actor passed on in a hospital near Falkirk in Scotland.

The real name of Robbie Coltrane is  Anthony Robert McMillan. He was born in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, in the year 1950.

Robbie Coltrane was the son of a teacher and pianist, Jean Ross Howie and a General Practitioner, Ian Baxter McMillan

Coltrane started his career in 1979 in the TV series Play for Today, however, he came to prominence in a BBC TV comedy series, "A Kick Up the Eighties."
