Corpus noted that a motive was not revealed as of Monday night and that there is no threat to the community. The authorities assume that Zhao acted alone in this incident. During a news conference held on Monday evening, Corpus remarked, “This is a tremendous tragedy for this town and the families touched by this unspeakable act of violence.”

According to the sheriff, authorities were notified of a gunshot at approximately 2:22 p.m. in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County, which is located approximately 30 kilometers south of San Francisco. They found four victims dead and one victim wounded when they arrived at the first place, and shortly after that, three more victims were found dead at a separate spot, according to Corpus. One of the victims who was found wounded had been shot.

According to an earlier statement made by Dave Pine, President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, one gunshot took place at a mushroom farm, and another took place close to a trucking company, approximately two miles from the farm.

According to Corpus, a sheriff’s officer spotted the suspect in his vehicle at 4:40 p.m. in the parking area of a sheriff’s substation in Half Moon Bay, and the man was taken into jail without a struggle. She stated that at that moment, a semi-automatic weapon was discovered in the individual’s vehicle. At the news conference, Corpus stated, “This kind of shooting is awful.” “It’s a tragedy that we hear about far too often, but unfortunately, it has struck close to home here in San Mateo County today.”

On the eve of the Lunar New Year, the tragedy occurred barely days after another mass killing in southern California Saturday night left 11 people dead in Monterey Park. The event shattered the sense of safety in the city of Monterey Park, which has a predominantly Asian population.

This evening, there were youngsters present in the area when a farm accident occurred, resulting in injuries to agricultural workers. In his own words, Mueller says, “this is a truly dreadful tragedy that has transpired in our society.”

Mueller addressed the mental health toll that the violence has unleashed in the community and advised people to get treatment. He spoke about the toll that the violence has had. “Please make use of the mental health crisis therapy that is available,” he added, adding that anybody can call the county’s hotline.
