During the interview on ITV’s This Morning, Carole Baskin stated, “They said that my husband, Don Lewis, is alive and well in Costa Rica.” [Citation needed] “And so, all of this hay has been made about me having something to do with his abduction, when Homeland Security has known where he is, at least since back then,” she said. “However, the blame for his departure still rests with me.”
Following the premiere of the documentary series on Netflix in 2020, several conspiracy theories emerged linking Carole Baskin to the disappearance of Lewis. As a result, some viewers of the show have accused Baskin of being responsible for Lewis’s death. According to another allegation made in the letter, Lewis “has loaned money to several individuals in Costa Rica and could live pretty well on the interest received on those loans,” which would allow him to “live in Costa Rica indefinitely.”
Even though there is no date appears on the letter, Carole Baskin asserted that Lewis must have been alive in 2002 or later because the letter was marked as coming from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), even though the department was not established until November 2002.
The statement that can be found on Carole Baskin’s website reads, “Those who insist Carole was responsible for Don’s death should explain how they know more than the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge, as evidenced by this Homeland Security Document indicating that Don Lewis is, in fact, now alive and safe in Costa Rica.” This statement was posted in response to those who continue to believe that Carole was responsible for Don’s death.
