This year’s “pyrotechnic salute to America” featured a spectacular performance above the East River that featured more than 60,000 shell explosions.
Live music kicked off the celebrations at dusk, followed by a stunning 25-minute fireworks display.
Both young and old observers stood in astonishment on either side of the river.

The NYC Fireworks 2023 this year honored trailblazing individuals, and a standout moment featured the late Tina Turner singing “The Best” while thousands of golden-hued shells produced a breathtaking waterfall effect.
Beautiful performances of American standards like “My Girl” and “Get Ready” by The Temptations, and the Beatles’ “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” were played.
The Harlem School of the Arts Dorothy Maynor Singers and country singer Brett Young, as well as R&B performer Jazmine Sullivan, were other standouts.
Additionally, Macy’s Fourth of July pyrotechnics included an innovative light show before the pyrotechnics for the first time.
Will Coss, the executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, said, “In conjunction with the City of New York, we were pleased to surprise our viewers with the first-ever live drone show in NYC ahead of the opening of the legendary Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. Millions of people watched as 500 drone lights stretched the stage for the musical performance, sculpted incredible shapes above the East River, and launched the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration.
The fitting way to end the fireworks display was with a performance of “New York, New York.”
Thanks in part to the NYPD’s conscientious efforts, the evening went off without a hitch.
Eddie Caban, the new acting police commissioner for the NYPD, invited Eyewitness News reporter Josh Einiger to go on his first helicopter ride with him before the fireworks display.
Together, they flew over the East River and observed the security measures.
When you’re up here, it’s beautiful, Caban remarked. “We are watching the world’s best entertainment from where we are situated.”

Preserving safety The agency hasn’t abandoned the rest of the city, where gun crime is still a problem, according to Caban. With everything from overhead radiation sensors to ground-based bomb detection, Tuesday night’s operation was extensive.
The NYPD always maintains one helicopter hovering over the city on an average day, ready to respond to any emergency. They had six on Tuesday night, and they weren’t just interested in the East River. They dispersed across the five boroughs and stood by, ready to act and keeping an eye on the skies for potential threats.
Public safety is currently a shared duty, according to my position as interim police commissioner, Caban stated. “If you notice something, tell something. If anything doesn’t look right, notify a uniformed officer. Or call 911.”
An evaluation by the NYPD stated that while Fourth of July activities, particularly the fireworks in New York City, are “attractive targets for attacks,” there was no known danger at the time.
